Maximising differences in the ELT classoom

Mina Patel

The aims of this workshop are to examine the types of diversity and the benefits of methodological eclecticism in any ELT class. Every class we teach is diverse because of the simple fact that our students are individuals. They may have similar backgrounds, needs, abilities etc. but within these general areas of similarity they are unique in who they are, what they need, how they process information. One of the keys to student success is confidence and this comes from achieving and being valued. It is impossible to cater for individual students needs all of the time. But what we can do is to exploit these similarities and differences to maximize the overall learning experience for our students. In this workshop we will experience some ‘traditional’ methods to achieve this and discuss newer more technological solutions. Come prepared to participate, experiment, share and enjoy yourselves!
