Language Teaching in the Postmethod Era

Martha Clark Cummings

In this workshop we will explore how to incorporate the postmethod “macrostrategies” and “microstrategies” of teaching languages as elaborated by B. Kumaravadivelu in 2006. We will examine what it means to teach language without using a particular method, but relying instead on strategies adapted to the local culture and traditions. We will focus in particular on exploratory practice and quality of life in the classroom.  Participants will “develop a capacity to generate varied and situation-specific ideas within a general framework that makes sense in terms of current predagogical and theoretical knowledge.” (Kumaravadivelu, 1992)
