Teaching a Storm in a Tea Cup: How Principled Eclecticism Can Be Applied to Teaching Vocabulary
How to apply the idea of
Principled Eclecticism to the presentation, practice and recycling of
vocabulary in EFL classrooms?
Vocabulary is a building block
for language, an essential part of any EFL classroom.
The nature of the English
language means there are many varied and “difficult” categories of vocabulary.
With each of these having its
own flavour and each class being varied, teachers need to be innovative and
proficient in Principled Eclecticism for teaching vocabulary.
The goal of this practical
workshop is to help teachers understand how different vocabulary items can be
approached with different methods. They will build up a “tool box” of
activities and increase their confidence to choose and use the most appropriate
methodology in each individual situation.
