What Makes a Good Test?

Assessment is important to language learning. However, many language teachers find testing forbidding and are not comfortable engaging with it. In this presentation, I use everyday language to discuss the qualities of a good test. Looking at examples from across the range of Cambridge English exams, I will explain how tests are put together, why the question papers look as they do, and what we do to produce results that are meaningful and useful for language learners. Teachers will hopefully learn how to evaluate tests and to design and use them in their own teaching with confidence.
