Teresa Bruno is a dedicated English
as a Second Language and Bilingual teacher educator. For over 10 years, she has
served as a teacher, teacher-leader, administrator and new-teacher mentor in US
public schools. She has worked at the Hunter College School of Education since
2013, concentrating on teacher education for ESL and Bilingual classroom
teachers. Teresa coordinates the TESOL & Bilingual Partnership programs,
including grant funded teacher training programs for novice teachers and
in-service teachers wishing to gain new language teaching skills and
credentials. Teresa has worked collaboratively on many initiatives, including
support for teacher candidates to complete portfolios and exams for state and
national teacher credentials.
Prior to entering the field of higher
education, Teresa taught English as a Second Language and French in grades
Kindergarten - 12th grade, first in New Orleans and later in New York City
Public Schools. In her work as a teacher, Teresa led student groups on service
learning trips to Thailand, India, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and
Spain. Teresa studied at Tulane University in New Orleans for her undergraduate
degree in French and Business, then continued to New York University as a
Petrie Scholar, where she earned a dual Masters in Multilingual and
Multicultural Studies, completing her capstone on English Language Education in
China. She has continued her post-MA work at NYU and Columbia University
Teacher’s College studying Education Policy. Through this work, Teresa traveled
to Argentina to study advocacy and education policy. February 2017 was Teresa’s
first visit as a CUNY Delegate, but her second visit to Vietnam. She was
married in 2015 and travelled to Vietnam for her honeymoon. She is looking
forward to returning to experience more of Vietnamese culture and education.
