Technology and the course book: a marriage of convenience?

Stuart Vinnie

Many teachers and students rely on published course books as their primary learning resource. And as the use of technology in language learning gains momentum, publishers are responding with a growing number of technological additions to these courses. This might include blending the courses with online options - e.g. online workbooks - or using presentation software to channel more multimedia into the lesson or to simply facilitate the ease of teaching larger classes. Many courses now have their own websites full of free resources, or their own Apps for mobile phones. The range of choices is vast; however, the question is: how can all these components be best incorporated into lessons? In this workshop we shall take first a look at the available options, and then share ideas for integrating them into the learning process through research, discussion and practical examples.
