Getting more out of graded readers: Ideas for the classroom

Ian Bosiak

Have you ever wanted to use graded readers in your class but not had many ideas? Graded readers are books that have been written with a controlled grammar and limited vocabulary. From classic tales to comic books, graded readers make great classroom resources. Graded readers are not just for extensive reading. They can be used in a number of ways including independent reading materials to in-class group activities. But because they come in all shapes and sizes, knowing how to integrate them into your classroom can be a challenge. Join us for this active workshop to discuss and learn about the many different uses graded readers can have in your classroom. We will briefly discuss what graded readers are and how they can be used. This will be followed by a demonstration of several different practical activities that can be done in the classroom.
