Teaching english to young learners - activities to promote speaking skills

Kim Pilger

This one hour workshop will examine and evaluate a number of activities aimed at maximizing child talking time in a fun and useful way. It will answer the following questions while offering a number of activities that can be effectively used in the classroom: What makes an effective lesson? What motivates children? How can we encourage children to produce English utterances in a constructive way? We will examine learning objectives and use them to develop creative, useful and fun lessons to help children use English naturally and succeed in Cambridge English Young Learners tests. The workshop will address reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation skills. Participants will leave the workshop with several easy-to-adapt activities that are proven to work in the classroom. These activities will energize teachers and students and help make English learning active, fun and inspiring. The vocabulary themes and grammar used all correspond to the requirements of the Cambridge YLE exams.
