Tran Xuan Thao

Tran Xuan Thao has been involved in English language teaching since 1977. He earned his B.A. at Hue College of  Education, his M.A. in TESOL at the University of Canberra, Australia, and his Ph.D. in educational administration at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  Seeing the important role played by English teachers for a better Vietnam, he initiated the introduction of TESOL as one of the key fields of the Fulbright grants while he was the Director of the Fulbright Program in Vietnam from 1999 to 2010, which has allowed more English teachers to further their studies in language education.  In his career, he has also served as chair of the Department of English and TEFL at Hue College of Education, and as a member of the Hue College Council and Academic Committee.  He served as a member of the Higher Education Accreditation Board of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 2009-2010.  He has won prestigious grants, scholarships and awards: two full grants from the Australian Government, the Fulbright Scholarship, and the Superior Honor Award from the U.S. Department of State for sustained thoughtful, creative management of the Fulbright Program in Vietnam.
