Flipping the classroom – A 21st century approach to teaching
The 21st Century educator is faced with a number of challenges that are unique to this century. How can we focus students on learning when the widespread use of technology in the home poses so many distractions? How can we somehow use this technology for the purposes of learning? How can we motivate students to do homework tasks that often seem remote from the needs of the real world, but are necessary to make progress in language courses where the number of hours falls short of what is really needed? Using examples from Life and 21st Century Reading, and using licensed content from National Geographic and TED Talks, this workshop will give participants concrete ideas of how “flipping” the classroom can enable the teacher to respond effectively to these challenges and help to create a dynamic classroom where students are adequately prepared and motivated for learning.
