Spice up your teaching with video

Paul Grainger

Video is a valuable and exciting addition to the classroom resources available for EFL teaching and can provide a powerful, high interest supplement or alternative to textbooks and other teaching aids, especially for the development of listening and speaking skills. Yet while many EFL teachers have already witnessed the compelling power of video in the classroom and are convinced of its value as a classroom resource, others still regard it as a fun extra and are unaware of its full value as a teaching tool and of specific ways it can be used to enhance classroom-based language lessons

In this lively and practical session the speaker gives step-by-step demonstrations of a variety of video- based activities and techniques for stimulating language use among EFL learners and promoting the development of conversational fluency. Participants, acting as learners and observers, become familiar with varieties of video material, along with specific teaching techniques and guidelines for planning and teaching video-based lessons for all levels.

Participants leave with a heightened awareness of the value of video as a teaching resource and of how they can most effectively integrate video into their lessons.
