Diversity and the power of storytelling in the Asian context
Coping with diversity in the classroom is always a challenge for teachers in Asian classrooms. Large class sizes, mixed abilities and a variety of learning styles can leave teachers feeling bewildered, frustrated and disillusioned. In this session John Cruft will introduce the concept of diversity and the challenges that teachers across Asia are facing. John will examine a variety of contexts, teacher types and case studies and discuss how teachers in each case overcame their own diversity challenge. The session will also look at what aspects of teaching have the power to remain constant despite these challenges. In particular John will put forward a case for empowering both students and teachers through a love of reading and storytelling.
