Industry 4.0 or the Fourth Industrial Revolution has created a dynamic transformation of how all aspects of business and production are done. Countries can’t now be defined within their borders but must reach out to the whole world. Businesses in this new era demand for people with sharp critical thinking, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to interact across the globe. Schools must come out of their shells to adapt with the revolution and create the adequate contexts for students to be prepared for the future jobs.

But how should this revolution impact on English Language Teaching in particular? While it emphasizes the continuing need for teaching and learning English as a global lingua franca, the application of what the revolution can bring along to maximize English language teaching and learning has become an urgent need for educators and learners. It is this essential that has sparked our interest in the theme “ELT 4.0: THE ERA OF AUTOMATION AND PRODUCTIVITY”, which will serve as the focal point of VUS TESOL Conference 2019.
